Ambassador  Edward J.
Perkins has been
appointed by Gov.  Brad
Henry as our state's
Honorary UN Day
Chairman.  Dr. Perkins
has served as  the
Executive Director of the
International Programs
Center at the University
of Oklahoma since 1996.
In 1989, he was named
U.S. Ambassador to the
United Nations and U.S.
Representative in the UN
Security Council, where
he served until 1993.

October 24th will
be recognized as
"UN Day" in
Oklahoma.  
To help organize
our celebration,
Governor Henry
has appointed
Ambassador
Edward Perkins to
serve as the
honorary Chairman
of UN Day.

After graduating from
Southern Nazarene
University and
Georgetown
University,
Ambassador Kenneth
Tillett returned to his
native Belize as
principal of the
Nazarene High School.
 
Ambassador Tillett
won an election as a
member of the Belize
City Council and
became the Senate
Minority Leader in the
National Assembly.  

After leaving the
United Nations,
Ambassador Tillet was
appointed Director of
the Refugee
Department in Belize
and was the liaison
between the
government of Belize
and the United
Nations High
Commissioner for
Refugees.

About our Speaker:
Ambassador Kenneth Tillett was appointed Belize's Ambassador
and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and served
in the General Assembly, ECOSOC, and other committees of the
United Nations.  He was the chief Belize negotiator for the
establishment of diplomatic relations between Belize and the
People's Republic of China.  Currently, Ambassador Tillett and his
wife, Margaret, make their home in Weatherford where he is a
faculty member at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Student Scholarships Available
Through the generosity of longtime supporters, the UNA-USA
OKC is able to offer several luncheon scholarships to students
who have an interest in the United Nations and its mission. If
you are a high school or college / university student interested in
attending this luncheon, be sure to ask for a Student
Scholarship when you send in your reservation request.  Include
an email address and return it today for prompt consideration.
You will be notified prior to the luncheon if you have received the
scholarship. If they all are awarded prior to your application,
students are eligible for reduced ticket price of $10.

the Scarab Room of the OCU Student Union) is located in the center of
the university campus.  Nearby parking is available in the lot at the rear
(north side) of the University Center.  From N. Classen Blvd., travel
west on NW 27th Street to Florida Street (about three blocks).  Turn
south on Florida to the parking lot.
