2. Do you have your own "favorite" issue to add to the suggested
Advocacy Agenda? If so, please describe it in the Comments box below.
1. Ratify Rights of the Child
2. Are there ways we (UNA-USA) can influence the US political power structure (post Nov.2
elections) to think seriously about the need for the US to be a key/cooperative player in more
meaningful deliberations regarding health, social justice, peace...
3. Developing a global ethic
4. Environmental issues
5. Work with the UN to get US out of Iraq ASAP.
6. The main issue for me is to get the culture of corruption in the UN changed before the UN
becomes more irrelevant. I think the fact that the Oil for Food program lined the pockets of so many
connected to the UN is one of mankind’s biggest disappointments.
7. How the UN can get involved with U.S. policy dealing with the War on Terrorism (Iraq and
Afghanistan).
8. US honoring of International Asylum Law
9. Uganda
10. Issues of globalization
11. Promote leaders in the UN that will stand up to Bush and not let him push around the UN.
12. grassroots economic development in developing countries (grassroots meaning no IMF or
Worldbank style exploitative schemes). Should also be along the lines of ecologically sustainable
development.
13. Meet with the editorial staff of the Oklahoman and Tulsa World to demonstrate there are Okies
of good will (some of whom are registered Republicans!) who see the value and worth of US
participation in the UN! It's probably not likely that they will send reporters to cover UNA-USA events, but
the media must ALWAYS be invited, with press releases distributed before and after each event.
14. Agricultural trade...reduce massive subsidies in the US, Europe and Japan, so farmers in
developing countries have a chance
15. I think this is party covered under "Millennium Goals", but ensure the ascendancy of women in
all areas of life, especially political. We will not have peace until women form half of the political voice at
all levels.
16. Peace among nations
17. UN Reform is necessary to validate the mission. Without it, the Bush administration will continue
to lead the fight to marginalize the UN. Without the US imprimatur the UN will be weakened. The get out
of the UN voices are becoming more strident and radicalized. If you talk about the funding issue, them
people in the US will just tune out. We have a half trillion-dollar federal budget deficit and it wasn’t even
a campaign issue in the recent presidential election. Ultimately, the funding issue will take care of itself it
the legitimacy issue is addressed. What does the Danish Consulate in Oklahoma City think about this
issue?
18. Relocation of the UN to a neutral country like Switzerland!!!!
19. A UN Dept. of Peace
20. Apartheid Wall / Palestinian crises, HIV/Aids crisis in Africa, India, etc. Illegal & immoral US led
Genocide/War in Iraq
