7. What additional information should we consider as we prepare our
Advocacy Agenda for 2005?
1. Are there ways to effectively inform a public (and officials) about the above issues when it
appears that they don't really care or do not think the UN is a viable organization as we, the US, pursues
the path of "we alone know what's best for us and the world" unilateralism.
2. I host a radio talk show -- I'll do what I can to promote your agenda on my radio program.
3. The recent PIPA survey of American understanding of international affairs suggests a terrible,
and dangerous, ignorance of simple facts about the world. Our administration has encouraged such
ignorance. Whatever agenda you adopt needs to lead, first and foremost, with simple focus on the facts.
4. If the UN can't regain the trust of the general US population, it is doomed to failure. You need to
get back trust.
5. Human rights in the world (such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and South America).
6. Assertive Educational Efforts.
7. Push UNICEF harder Do we have relationship to refugees concern? Do we have relationship to
programs working on victims of torture? As one working on Adopt-A-Minefield I wish to get this into a
greater arena of rehabilitation of war maimed? What UN program?
8. Find a way to fund birth control and family planning without U.S. funding until the Bush cabal is
out of office. This is vitally needed for poor women through out the world. It is shameful that the Bush
cabal is withholding such funding to please the American Talliban.
9. leadership and development of local progressive cadre.
10. see #2 above
11. The lack of open and non biased media in America. Seems the last several years it has become
one giant propaganda machine and it does not like the UN
12. With Bush in power, I think we would waste our time on the treaty issue. Better to work on
reform, and UN Millennium goals
13. The role of "Peak Oil" in defining US foreign strategy. Energy is the greatest concern for the
future. The energy of the high tech countries must be brought to bear of shifting to non oil energy
sources while it can still be done gradually. Trying to acquire and hoard to the last drop, as the US and
Britain are doing is not the answer.
14. Most people know about the UN. I believe we do not think much about it unless we hear the
President is going to go speak there or that some policy is being made.
15. I would be interested in attending your meetings. Please advise me what that will be. Thank you
for this opportunity to make my views know to you.
16. UN MODEL classes at High schools and local Colleges.
17. Public Forums!
18. Any public education program would be beneficial in my opinion
