John will be missed by lots of people. He was a good man who gave so much
of himself for the local as well as global community. I will always appreciate him
for giving me the opportunity to be involved with the United Nation Association
as well as realizing the importance of Interfaith Alliance. I also appreciate him
for his love and special attention for the students.

John was an outstanding leader of the OKC-UNA chapter as well as a vigorous
proponent of broader peace and justice concerns in the Oklahoma City
community. He provided both an expanded vision for the chapter and energy
to assist in implementing that vision. I appreciated both his inquisitive mind and
his ability to disagree without being disagreeable. John, you will be missed!

John Fleming was an example of humility coupled with great caring. He always
made one feel that they really counted with him. He was unaffected and
genuine. He was a tireless worker and a great planner and organizer. He was
congruent, "what you saw was what you got." His passing is a terrible blow to
society.
We met him only 5 years ago and he immediately made us feel as though we
had been lifetime friends. We will miss this beautiful man.

My association with John was relatively short, two years, however that time
allowed me the opportunity to realize his most significant contribution to
peace, social justice and general humanitarian issues. I will remember him as a
gracious servant leader.

John really was one of those rare people -- always trying to get the rest of us
to do the best we could -- with little need to take the credit for himself. John will
be so missed, however, more for the smiles, the friendly phone calls, the
gentle urgings. Those were the things that often made our work with John so
frustrating yet in the end so successful.

John was a gentle, kind, hardworking person, who had a gift for making each
person contacted feel special. We will greatly miss John in the UNA of OKC
and in the broader community. We are saddened by his passing.

The passing of John Fleming is a tremendous loss to the community of
Oklahoma City. I remember him from his days at Community Council in the
early 70's where he did a fine job as a planner. I remember how committed he
was to his church and the choir and the organ in those days. And in the past 3
years I have known him again in his work with the UNA. He was a modest man
and I think he would be a bit surprised at all the people who think so highly of
him. May his soul soar. Martha Kendall Holmes

Having known John for nearly 30 years, I responded immediately when he
asked me to join the UNA-USA-OKC board. His leadership will be SO missed - I
can't think of another person who can provide the meticulous attention to
detail that John so willingly gave the organization. He'll be missed all over the
community - and remembered with fondness and gratitude.

I worked side-by-side with John Fleming as a member of the UN Association for
the last 5 years. I wish I had met John earlier. He was a good man, a
gentleman. And, he had a deep concern for the cause of peace, justice, and
human rights.
I remember he mentioned one time that he was a conscientious objector to
war, and as a young man he actually went before his local draft board to
defend his C.O. application.
The members of the draft board had a duty to determine if John's beliefs were
sincere. I can't imagine that they could have arrived at any other conclusion. I
have always known John to be earnest, sincere, and serious -- with a little bit
of a mischieviousness mixed in for balance. His sense of humor shouldn't be
forgotten.
John's legacy is a lifetime of service to his community and to the world.
