Building Awareness Among the
Next Generation of Leaders
A Message from Robert Cox, President
Greater Oklahoma City Chapter
UNA-USA
Dear Friends:

Best wishes for the New Year!  We look forward to 2010
and a growing prominence of the United Nations in
addressing the world's challenges.

For our local chapter, 2009 was a very good year.
Indeed, we had a very successful year of programming.
One of our biggest priorities this year was to build stronger relations with local
student chapters.  We now have representation from chapters at a number of
colleges across the state, including Southwestern State University, University
of Oklahoma, University of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma City University, and
Oklahoma State University.

The objective of this effort has been to build awareness of the UN among the
next generation of leaders.  Towards that end, we supported a team from OU
that participated in the National Model UN competition in New York.  In return
for our support, this group made a presentation to our membership during the
Spring luncheon.  We are looking forward to more such collaborations with
student groups.

During our Fall luncheon, we had the special pleasure to hear from former
Governor David Walters, who told us about his efforts building electric power
plants in Pakistan.  We learned a lot about the challenges of doing business in
a country with a delicate political situation and the importance of the UN in
supporting infrastructure initiatives in that part of the world.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, I would like to invite you to become
involved in the programming we are planning for this year.  Our next large
event will be the annual Spring luncheon, scheduled for 24 April 2010.  As
plans develop, we will send you more information about this, or you can always
stay in touch by visiting our webpage, which is so ably maintained by Bill
Bryant.  It can be reached at:

www.una-okc.org

Also, I would like to ask you to help us keep in touch with you.  Please send us
your preferred contact information, especially your email address.  We want to
know what you are doing and help make sure we do our best to keep you fully
informed of the events and opportunities with the UNA-USA of OKC.

Hope your year is off to a great start.  Feel free to contact us if you have any
questions about the group, or suggestions for things we might be doing.

Sincerely,

Robert Cox
