Cultural Awareness for
Students and Teachers
We are proud to be a promoter of
the Unicef “Trick-or-Treat”
campaign.  For over 50 years, the
US Fund for Unicef has sponsored
this nation-wide program.
Since 1950, children in the United
States have shown their commitment to improving the
lives of their peers around the world by filling our
famous orange box with change for UNICEF on
Halloween.  Of the $4 million raised in one recent year,
nearly 70 percent was raised by young people
volunteering through their schools, community groups,
faith-based and other service organizations.

High School Essay Contest
Since 1986, the UN Association’s
National High School Essay Contest on
the United Nations has inspired
students to engage global issues and
the work of the UN through scholarship
and critical thinking. Each year, The
United Nations Association of the USA
publishes a topic and question of
particular importance to the international community.
Students then conduct research and write a response
to the question, based not only on the information
they have found, but also on their own views and
opinion.

Model United Nations of the Southwest (MUNSW)
is a student organization committed to increasing
public awareness of the role the United Nations
plays in today’s international community.  During our
annual conference, we educate junior high and high
school students using
simulated international
crises and the debate
of resolutions to
demonstrate the
United Nations’ role in
addressing global
issues.  The conference lasts for four days and is
attended by approximately 400 to 500 delegates
each year.  Conference attendees are split into their
pre-selected country delegations and represent the
foreign policy positions of their respective countries
for the duration of the UN simulation.

The Respect Diversity
Foundation
(RDF) was
created to help people of all
ages successfully live, learn
and work in our
increasingly
diverse society.
It is that very
diversity that is
the strength of
this country.  RDF seeks to
help students of all ages
understand other cultures
and their own, create positive
inter-group relationships and
build strong communities
throughout the state of
Oklahoma.  RDF’s mission is
to teach tolerance and
respect for all people.

The human rights of children… are most concisely articulated in
one international human rights treaty: the Convention on the Rights
of the Child.  The Convention is the most universally accepted
human rights instrument in history – it has been ratified by every
country in the world except two – and therefore uniquely places
children center-stage in the quest for the universal application of
human rights.

The Peace Education
Institute of Oklahoma
City… is dedicated to the
premise that every sane
human being on the
